Two singles, cut to shape, margins to touching, used with 1854, ½a Blue, Die I (2; SG 2), two singles, margins to touching, each stamp tied by "57" diamond grid cancel, red "Ahmednugur, 1856 JAN 15, Paid" boxed datestamp (Giles 1) on cover to Cape of Good Hope, sender's directive "Stamped for steamer via Ceylon & Mauritius", red "INDIA" and "INDIA PAID" handstamps, Bombay transit and Cape Town arrival backstamps, stamps with some slight toning from residual ink bleed of cancel, cover missing about half of back panel FINE. A SCARCE USE OF THE 1854 HALF-ANNA AND 4-ANNAS LITHOGRAPH ON COVER TO CAPE OF GOOD HOPE. Giles records the use of the Ahmednugur datestamp from 1838 to 1854--this cover is a couple of years after the recorded period.
