COLLECTIBLE: 1854, 4a Red & Blue, 2nd Printing, Head Die II, Frame Die I (6D; SG 19). Two singles, cut to shape, margins to touching, used with 1854, 1a Red, Die I (4; SG 12), two singles, large margins to clear, tied by diamond of dots cancels on blue folded letter to Corfu, Ionian Islands, sender's directive "via Calcutta & Alexandria by Steamer, Stamped for the after packet", red Patna Apr. 18, 1855 despatch datestamp on back, red "INDIA PAID" handstamp, manuscript "5+3=8" rate ties both 1a and one 4a stamps, Calcutta transit and arrival datestamp, one 4a affected by horizontal file fold VERY FINE. THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED 1854 LITHOGRAPH COVER TO THE IONIAN ISLANDS, WHICH WAS UNDER BRITISH ADMINISTRATION. A FANTASTIC AND EXOTIC DESTINATION. This franking paid the 2a inland rate plus 8a ship rate to Corfu. With the Treaty of Paris in 1815, the British took control of the Ionian Islands, and the islands remained part of the British Empire until transferred to Greece in 1862. With 2014 B.P.A. certificate.
