Higginson in Mauritius, red "INDIA PAID" crescent handstamp and manuscript "4a", legible strike of "Packet Letter, Mauritius, JU 17, 1857" oval arrival datestamp which also ties 4a VERY FINE AND FULL-MARGINED EXAMPLE OF THE 4-ANNAS FIFTH PRINTING LITHOGRAPH ON COVER TO MAURITIUS. This cover was sent to (Sir) James M. Higginson, who held various positions after he entered the Bengal Army in 1824, including Governor of Antigua (1847-50) and Governor of Mauritius from 1851 to 1857, during which time this cover was sent.
