Horizontal pair, trimmed perfs at bottom and left, cancelled by two strikes of barred "124" with "Aden DE 28, 1857" despatch datestamp on reverse of registered cover to Bombay, lightly struck red "Registered Letter" straightline and "Aden B.P.P. Paid" handstamps, manuscript rated "1/-", Bombay arrival backstamp, horizontal file fold well away from stamps, Fine and scarce, this is the earliest recorded example of registered mail from Aden, the 4a in stamps paid the registry fee while the postage was paid in cash, a practice which was acceptable under the 1855 Indian Post Office regulations.
